Vitamin C

Ascorbic Acid or Vitamin C is one of the major antioxidants which helps prevent free radical damage.  It is essential for healthy teeth, gums and bones. It increases the immune system function, and is involved in the formation of important stress hormones.  It produces and maintains collagen, a protein that forms the foundation for connective tissue.

It is important in fighting bacterial infections, healing wounds, preventing hemorrhaging, reducing allergy symptoms, and helping to prevent heart disease.

Vitamin C is also a natural antihistamine, and can reduce blood pressure in mild hypertension; it prevents the progression of cataracts, and helps regulate blood sugar levels.  Vitamin C may help improve fertility, and helps regulate cholesterol so that it is excreted out of the body.  It lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol, while raising the HDL (good) cholesterol.
